Host Profiles –Vpshere (Contd)

How to apply profile

Now let’s use the profile

To actually make profile work for you, you need to attach profile to host or cluster

  • Build ESXi host, let’s call it a vanilla build. It means no organization specific customization applied
  • It is as simple as taking ESXi ISO and booting it and building the ESXi host
    • Set the password for the host
    • Decide & set the name of the host following standard naming conventions
    • Enter IP details in the host
    • Enter the DNS IP details for resolution
    • Restart management host
  • Exit out of DCUI (Direct Console User Interface), this is all you need to do.
  • It takes 5 minutes per ESXi host
  • Add ESXi host to vCenter, I would suggest you keep separate place holder in the form of Datacenter e.g. Provisioning Datacenter
  • Put the host in maintenance mode (It is essential step)

  • You only need a vMotion IP and Subnet ready as this is Unique setting per ESXi host

  • Once you get a prompt, enter the value and see the magic
  • Before it applies the profile it will list down the things which are non-compliant and it will apply those settings

  • Once the steps are applied, compliance check is automatically invoked to check the host is compliant.
